Duty
Drawback Services
Duty drawbacks
allow exporters to receive 99% of customs duties paid on imported
merchandise. For many exporters, duty drawbacks result in substantial
savings over the course of a year. The two major types of drawbacks
are as follows:
1. Unused
/Same Condition Drawback
An unused
or same condition drawback is a claim for refund of customs duties
paid on imported merchandise which is exported in the same condition
as when imported, or destroyed under Customs supervision and not
used within the United States before such exportation or destruction.
Merchandise must be exported or destroyed and drawback claim submitted
within 3 years of the date of importation.
2. Manufacturer's
Drawback
A manufacturer's
drawback is a claim for refund of customs duties paid on imported
material that is consumed, used or appears in a product that is
then exported. Manufacture or production in the United States
must alter the article in name, character or use. The completed
merchandise must be exported within 5 years after importation
of the merchandise identified or designated in the claim.
